American Football Queensland (AFQ) regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2025 Reef Bowl championship game between the Cairns Falcons and the Townsville Cyclones, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, 1st February 2025, in Cairns.

Due to record-breaking rainfall that has left much of North Queensland submerged and caused significant damage to road infrastructure, the game was initially rescheduled to 15th February 2025. However, with no reprieve from the severe weather conditions and an ongoing forecast of further heavy rainfall over the coming days, the decision has been made to officially cancel the game.

As per the AFQ Operations Manual, Section 6.3 – Cancelled and Abandoned Games in Post-Regular Season, in the event of a cancelled finals game where rescheduling is not feasible, the team that finished the regular season in the superior position on the competition table will be awarded the win. Consequently, the Cairns Falcons, who finished as minor premiers, are declared the winners of the 2025 Reef Bowl.

While this is an unfortunate outcome, the safety of players, officials, and spectators remains our top priority. We acknowledge the efforts and dedication of both the Cairns Falcons and the Townsville Cyclones throughout the season and commend them on their achievements.

AFQ extends its appreciation to all players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging time.
