City of Moreton Bay to Host National Flag Football Showcase:
"Capture the Flag" Set for November 28–30

Brisbane, QLD – June 4th, 2025 — American Football Queensland (AFQ) is proud to announce that City of Moreton Bay will host the highly anticipated "Capture the Flag" national flag football event from November 28 to 30, 2025. This major sporting event will bring together elite athletes from across Australia, New Zealand and Asia for three days of fast-paced, non-contact American football action.

The event, supported by City of Moreton Bay, underscores the city’s growing reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events and community engagement.

AFQ President James Cowlishaw expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership:

“We are thrilled to bring 'Capture the Flag' to Moreton Bay, a city that has shown unwavering support for the growth of American football in Queensland. This event not only highlights the athleticism and strategy inherent in flag football but also provides an opportunity for the community to engage with the sport in a dynamic and inclusive environment.”

Flag football, recently recognized by the International Olympic Committee and set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, is experiencing rapid growth in Australia. Queensland athletes have been at the forefront of this expansion, with several QLD players recently selected for national squads following standout performances at the Senior and Junior Flag Football National Championships.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he was proud that City of Moreton Bay’s great facilities, convenient connectivity, and active community make the city a destination of choice for sporting competitions like the national ‘Capture the Flag’ event.

“We are happy to be working with American Football Queensland to bring this exciting new sport to our city and to showcase talented athletes from our world-class Griffin Sports Complex,” Mayor Flannery said.

“It is even more special considering I myself once played American football as a member of the Pine River Pirates.

“We look forward to welcoming the teams, players, spectators, and support staff to City of Moreton Bay.

The "Capture the Flag" event promises to be a celebration of sport, community, and the exciting future of flag football in Australia. Further details, including venue information and ticketing, will be announced in the coming months.
